Colour

Here at Scc Art we love colour; tints, shades, and intensity. Colour is all around us. In our daily lives we encounter the most beautiful arrays of colour in the most ordinary of settings but for one reason or another they often go unnoticed. Observe how beautiful the colours are in the photo below which was taken in a bakery in France (sorry you can't buy these locally!)

The following link will help to improve your knowledge and appreciation of colour and lots more besides; artyfactory

Public Art

A new piece of public art celebrates the tradition of young people riding horses bareback around Dublin.

It is called Misneach, 'courage' in Irish,  and this bronze sculpture by artist John Byrne will be unveiled next week  in Ballymun. A full article on this piece of art from The Irish Times can be read HERE. It also comments on a YouTube video which shows the making of Misneach and includes an explaination by the artist of the thought process behid the piece.

Monotypes

The Form VI Q Set have got off to a great start this year producing a strong collection of monoprints. The prints were created with a limited amount of materials, ink, paper, glass and rollers but still remain very effective.

Form IV Photography Module

Form IV have now begun their photography module with Mr. Watts. They will cover the basics of taking photos with an SLR camera and traditional developing techniques for  black and white prints. In addition to this they will develop skills in digital photography. We are also very excited about using newly acquired software 'Adobe Lightbox 3' for digital photography.   Sccart would like to draw attention to the copies of 'Practical Photography' which reside in the College Library. The June 2010 issue discusses in one article, 'How to use light', in order to improve your photographic skills. It is also worth checking out the photography links on the side-bar of this blog, especially the inspirational 1x.com.

While on the subject of our wonderful library, it is also worth mentioning that The Irish Arts Review is also available for perusing at your leisure. It is a quarterly magazine whose most recent cover story highlights the work of Irish painter Mary Swanzy
