The theme of Mother and Child appears over and over again in Art. The Pietá is the name commonly given to depictions of Jesus Christ and his Mother, Mary. One of the best kown of these depictins is Michelangelo's La Pietá.  

Another example displaying the theme of Mother and Child  is the 'Virgin and Child Studies' by Raphael.
